Wilten’s Koby Kayden Supports Westminster Apprentices as Guest Alumni Speaker

Wilten is proud to highlight the contribution of Koby Kayden (Quantity Surveyor), who recently returned to the University of Westminster as a guest alumni speaker, supporting current apprenticeship students through their End Point Assessment (EPA) and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) journey.

A 2025 graduate of the University of Westminster, Koby was invited by the university to take part in its series of workshops to support Apprentices coming to the end of the programme which are designed to guide apprentices through the key stages of the various assessment requirements. The workshops cover essential topics including building strong foundations and time management skills, selecting an appropriate case study, APC portfolio preparation, and delivering a confident final assessment.

Having recently completing his APC and achieved MRICS status to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Koby shared first-hand insights from his own journey. His session focused on practical advice, lessons learned, and realistic expectations of the EPA and APC process, followed by an engaging Q&A where students could benefit from his experience as a practicing professional within the built environment sector.

During the Q&A, apprentices asked how to approach writing APC daily diary entries, with Koby advising that entries must clearly demonstrate how day‑to‑day work meets the RICS competencies, including evidencing Levels 1 and 2 when recording higher‑level competencies. A further question focused on whether Apprentice Off‑the‑Job hours could be used for APC daily diaries, where Koby explained that the two serve different purposes and are not interchangeable, stressing that diary entries must explicitly demonstrate compliance with RICS requirements.

The University expressed strong appreciation for Koby’s involvement, highlighting that his contribution was impactful and highly beneficial to their current cohort of RICS pathway Apprentices. His support also demonstrated the important role alumni can play in mentoring and inspiring future professionals.

Wilten is delighted to see Koby giving back to his university and supporting the next generation of Chartered Surveyors. His continued involvement in future EPA/APC workshops and ongoing support to provide APC counselling to Wilten and external Apprentices reflects Wilten’s commitment to professional development, industry engagement, and high professional standards.
