We have marked a major milestone in our sustainability journey by delivering our greenest development to date, whilst also reporting exceptional progress in reducing carbon emissions.
Since our establishment just over 4 years ago, we have embedded sustainability at the heart of our operations, becoming Planet Mark certified from inception and implementing and improving on our ESG Policy each year. This early commitment places us at the forefront of sustainable construction across our core markets.
Over the past four years, we have worked closely with Planet Mark to measure and actively reduce our carbon footprint. Having achieved annual certification every year since 2021, our company has exceeded the standard target of -5% emissions reduction year-on-year, with a substantial -89.5% reduction in year four.
This huge achievement has been recognised by Planet Mark, with us shortlisted as a Finalist in the Carbon Reduction Per Employee Category at the 2025 Planet Mark Awards.
Our pathway to net zero will target Planet Mark’s milestones and Net Zero Programme over the coming years, accelerating our journey in accordance with agreed, long-term targets.
Ferne Park: Wilten’s First BREEAM Outstanding and Fitwel Accredited Development
Our ESG vision is clearly demonstrated at our recently completed Ferne Park project in Fareham – a scheme that has turned an under-utilised office building site into a flagship green development.
Ferne Park provides three high-spec, Grade A Light Industrial Units with CAT A Offices, totalling 107,554sqft. Designed and built to the highest sustainability standards, Ferne Park achieved:
BREEAM Outstanding (92.1%) – Wilten’s first scheme to reach this rating
Fitwel Accreditation – enhancing health and wellbeing for occupants
EPC A+ rating
Net Zero embodied carbon
Ferne Park incorporates a range of eco-friendly features and sustainable credentials which benefit the end users:
⚡ EV charging points
☀️ PV solar panels
💡 LED lighting
🌤️ 51%+ natural daylight
♨️ Enhanced U-values
🌿 25% biodiversity net gain
Working in collaboration with our valued client Kingsbridge Estates, we achieved excellence by prioritising sustainability, health, and community impact at every stage. This required us to consider users, tenants, operators, and maintainers early in the design to incorporate features to enhance their health and quality of life, including:
Stairs located in a more visible position than lifts with active design strategies e.g. creative lighting, moderating temperatures, natural daylight
Natural daylight with a minimum of 51% natural daylight
Thermal control including controls, HVAC grills that allow for vent control, and a building management system
Matt Fry, Director / Co-founder of Wilten said: “Achieving a remarkable BREEAM Outstanding score of 92.1%, surpassing the 85% threshold, demonstrates what can be achieved through early investment in additional design resource, collaboration, and a shared commitment to sustainability and quality.”
The project also prioritised partnering with operational businesses located adjacent to the site. To overcome key obstacles such as working adjacent to live businesses and managing complex stakeholder needs, Justin Watts, Operations Director, commented “We carefully coordinated logistics, implemented robust environmental controls, and maintained open communication throughout to maintain their safety and daily activities”. The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) Report confirms the vigorous practices implemented to protect the community, with the site achieving a score of 46/45 for its second visit; our first CCS Outstanding score!
Our community-focused approach is also evident in the significant social value delivered, including RIBA skills mentoring for the University of Portsmouth students delivered in collaboration with the Architect, curriculum-linked engagement with Chichester College, support for Chichester Food Bank, and a strong focus on local supply chain partnerships.
Tom Newman, Development Manager of Kingsbridge, has praised the combined efforts of all involved and the success of the scheme: “This is Kingsbridge’s greenest development to date, by achieving EPC A+ and BREEAM Outstanding with a score of 92.1% it reflects our strongest commitment to sustainability while delivering high-quality workspace that drives productivity, supports occupiers, and generates lasting economic value for the region. This milestone is also a testament to the strength of both Kingsbridge consultants and Wilten Construction’s team, whose collaborative approach has been integral to the project’s success."
Our First Net Zero Carbon Scheme at Pioneer Park, Leicester
Alongside Ferne Park, we delivered our first Net Zero carbon scheme at Space City (Pioneer Park), Leicester for Brackley Property Developments (BPD). The scheme, comprising Docks 3, 4 and 5, integrates cutting-edge sustainability features, including roof-mounted PVs, air source heat pumps, super-insulated building fabric, cycle storage, and EV charging. The buildings operate without gas heating and are fully net zero carbon, and the Docks are landscaped with hedges and trees, providing surroundings that support biodiversity.
James Houghton, Senior Project Manager at BPD, praised our achievements: “Wilten actively engaged with our Carbon Consultant to exceed contract targets. The successful outcome was that the final carbon score was lower than the original target, which was a great result”.
Strong Pipeline of Sustainable Developments
Our outlook is positive with a strong forward order book through a combination of repeat business awards and new client relationships.
Live projects include the following BREEAM Excellent developments:
Multi-unit scheme in Harlow for Legal and General (L&G) and Canmoor
Single unit in Dunstable for L&G
Skills and Innovation Centre at Gateway 14, Stowmarket, for Jaynic and Mid Suffolk Council
Manufacturing Facility at Gateway 14, Stowmarket, for Assan Panel
Two units at Shenley Wood, Site B, in Milton Keynes for Hampton Brook, both units being BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+, and therefore carbon negative in operation
Additionally, these projects are delivering social value aligned with our client’s ESG commitments, our ESG Policy, local planning policies, and approved Employment and Skills Plans.
Thank you to our clients, supply chain, and TeamWilten for their commitment to delivering our ESG policy, supporting our carbon reduction journey and achievements, and delivering some of the most sustainable industrial, logistics, and commercial developments in the UK.
